Lebanese Authorities Trace Source of Forged Passports Held by Assad Family Members
After a thorough investigation by Lebanese authorities, it was determined that the passports recently found in the possession of the wife and daughter of Dureid Al-Assad, the son of Refaat al-Assad, at Beirut Airport were not issued by the Syrian embassy in Lebanon, as initially suspected. Instead, they were issued by the Immigration Department in Aleppo, MTV broadcaster reported on Monday.

Trump Says Assad 'Fled' Syria After Losing Russia's Support
US president-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had "fled his country" after losing the backing of Russia.
"Assad is gone," he said on his Truth Social platform.
"His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer," Trump added.
Previously on Saturday, Trump said the U.S. should not be involved in the conflict in Syria, where rebel forces are threatening the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
"Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!," Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.
Trump said because Russia, an Assad ally, is tied up fighting a war with Ukraine it "seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years."
If Russia were forced out of Syria, it "may actually be the best thing that can happen to them" because "there was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia," Trump said.
