Lebanese Authorities Trace Source of Forged Passports Held by Assad Family Members

After a thorough investigation by Lebanese authorities, it was determined that the passports recently found in the possession of the wife and daughter of Dureid Al-Assad, the son of Refaat al-Assad, at Beirut Airport were not issued by the Syrian embassy in Lebanon, as initially suspected. Instead, they were issued by the Immigration Department in Aleppo, MTV broadcaster reported on Monday.

The forged passports caught the attention of Lebanese security officials due to their outdated nature. Unlike the newer biometric passports currently in use, the documents in question appeared old. The General Security’s suspicions grew, and further examination revealed that the dates on the passports had been altered, exposing the extent of the forgery.

The two women, both members of the prominent Al-Assad family, were promptly detained and prevented from traveling. Lebanese authorities took immediate action, placing them in custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
