Kataeb Party Calls for State of Emergency in the South, Accuses Self-Appointed "Republic Guardians" of Blocking Presidential Election

The Kataeb Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel. Following discussions on recent developments, particularly the lingering presidential void as well as the ongoing subjugation of the country and the usurpation of the State’s decision-making power, the politburo issued the following statement:

1. Despite the positive steps taken by the Kataeb Party to facilitate the election of a President and restore institutional order, and following the detailed roadmap announced by the opposition to overcome the current deadlock, it has become clear that the failure to reach a solution is because those who have self-appointed themselves as “guardians of the republic” do not want the election of a President whose loyalty would only belong to Lebanon amid a multi-faceted war being waged on behalf of Iran.

The Kataeb Political Bureau believes that all internal initiatives and proposals brought by envoys have been and will continue to be a waste of time, waiting for the conclusion of the major conflict. The Kataeb Party will no longer participate in this futile waiting game.

2. The escalating tension between Israel and Hezbollah is bringing Lebanon and the region closer to an explosion that will destroy the remaining fragments of state institutions and ruin any capacity for recovery.

Therefore, the Kataeb Party calls for the declaration of a state of emergency in the south and urges the government to awaken from its inertia, reclaim the initiative, enforce international resolutions it advocates, deploy the military, and arm it with full political support to protect Lebanon. This would make the army the sole legitimate deterrent to prevent aggression from any source.

The Political Bureau believes that the political authority, by its total submission to Hezbollah's will, is stripping the State and the Lebanese people of the right to save their country and determine their fate. It is also risking losing international attention which will shift entirely to Israel in the event of a full-scale war, knowing that it has always been the favored child of major powers.

3. The repeated assaults on Lebanese journalists and dissenting voices that speak up against the logic of the “resistance” can no longer be tolerated.

Suppressing voices through violence and intimidation has never succeeded in quelling the truth. Whenever one voice is silenced, many more rise to take its place.

The Kataeb Party reaffirms its support for all journalists and media professionals in their struggle to uphold their mission and maintain Lebanon's image. It calls on the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to identify and deter the known perpetrators.
