Lebanese authorities seized $7 million in smuggled cash at Beirut Airport as part of an ongoing crackdown on illicit financial flows.
According to sources cited by Al-Hadath, the cash was discovered in several suitcases aboard a flight arriving from an African country. The suitcases belonged to individuals from a town in southern Lebanon, prompting investigators to open a formal inquiry.
The Financial Crimes Bureau has been assigned to follow up on the case, seeking to determine the origin of the seized funds.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank governor ordered the confiscated money to be securely stored in the bank’s vault as investigations continue.
