Justice Minister Adel Nassar proposed declaring Lebanon's northeastern border region in the Bekaa a demilitarized zone, with the exclusive deployment of the Lebanese army, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national security, informed sources told Lebanon 24.

During Monday’s Cabinet session, Nassar stressed that once security measures are finalized and the army asserts control over the area south of the Litani River, the next step should be extending these measures to the northeastern border in the Bekaa. He argued that such a move would serve as a continuation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, helping to safeguard Lebanon's territorial integrity and protect its citizens.
