Justice Minister Adel Nassar has called for an official investigation into the unrest on the airport road following violent protests and an attack on a UNIFIL vehicle by Hezbollah supporters.
Nassar contacted Public Prosecutor Judge Jamal Hajjar, requesting that he take immediate action to probe the incidents and implement the necessary legal measures. In response, Judge Hajar consulted with the government commissioner and military intelligence before informing the minister that procedures to initiate an investigation were underway.
The unrest, which erupted after authorities barred two Iranian planes from landing at Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport, has led to escalating tensions. Protesters, many waving Hezbollah flags and chanting slogans, have blocked the airport road and torched a UNIFIL vehicle, leaving at least one peacekeeper wounded.
