Executive Director of Bachir Gemayel Foundation: He Was a Project of Peace Between Sects to Build a Civilized State

Executive Director of Bachir Gemayel Foundation Alfred Madi recalled Bachir Gemayel on the anniversary his election on the 23rd of August 1982, saying that he was a project of peace between sects to accept each other to build a civilized State.

“The United States recognized Bachir Gemayel and assured him through a letter it sent that the Palestinian cause will not be resolved at the expense of the Lebanese one,” Madi said in an interview with LBCI.

“During the first round, 3 MPs cast white ballots and Bachir Gemayel failed to amass the two-thirds quorum, gaining 58 votes against 1 for Raymond Eddeh. Therefore, a second round was held whereby Gemayel received 57 votes and was elected President,” he said when asked about Gemayel’s election session.
