Kataeb Lawmaker Nadim Gemayel pointed out that "we had previously warned about Hezbollah's illegal weapons. This party is now reaping what it sowed over the past 20 years. It threatened us, destroyed us, killed us, and did not allow anyone to speak freely. It encircled people in the mountains and prevented the State from acting."
In an interview with LBCI, Gemayel said, "I do not wish what is happening to Hezbollah today. We want to build a national partnership with it, but this party has always dealt with us with arrogance."
He questioned: "Where is the deterrence of Hezbollah's illegal weapons today amid this large wave of displacement? How have these weapons protected its environment and leadership, to the point where even its Secretary-General has been assassinated?"
He added: "Hezbollah's illegal weapons have destroyed Lebanon, so how can it emerge victorious?"
Gemayel affirmed, "I do not wish for Hezbollah to be broken, but it is the one that chose to support Gaza, and now it wants a ceasefire."
He continued, "If Hezbollah insists on continuing this war, we will pay a heavy price in destruction and devastation."
The Kataeb Lawmaker noted that "the elements of victory for some are unrealistic. Why should I sacrifice hundreds of martyrs for Iran?"
Gemayel called on Hezbollah's leadership to separate itself from Iran and hand over its illegal weapons to the Lebanese army, emphasizing that a ceasefire will not occur unless Hezbollah disarms.
He urged every political leader in Lebanon to pressure Hezbollah to surrender its weapons, adding, "It is clear that things will escalate."
He stated: "It is our duty to protect Lebanon, and a ceasefire has its conditions. It is evident that there is great confusion within Hezbollah."
Gemayel asked,"Do we have the capabilities that Israel possesses? Who is more exhausted, Lebanon or Israel?"
He noted that Iran, despite all the blows it has received, has only responded symbolically.
He remarked: "Hezbollah's problem is that it was only powerful domestically through the 'black shirts,' imposing the formation of governments and wielding arms."
The Kataeb Lawmaker stressed that "our responsibility today is to act in the interest of building Lebanon."
He pointed out that the Late President Bachir Gemayel applied the principle of "no victor, no vanquished," and his dream was to unify the Lebanese vision.
"Today, the victor and the vanquished are between Israel and Hezbollah. Hezbollah decided to open the front on October 8, and it must bear the responsibility. By what right does Hezbollah drag us into a devastating war like this? If Marada Movement Leader Sleiman Frangieh were president, would he have accepted this war?" he asked.
Gemayel stated: "Hezbollah overpowered the Lebanese State, and there is no conspiracy against it. It is the one that led us into war, and it must bear the responsibility alone."
He added that "UNSC Resolution 1701 died on October 8, and after Nasrallah's assassination, a new equation emerged. The problem is that Iran is dictating Hezbollah's decisions."
Gemayel emphasized that there is only one decision that the Lebanese must make: Hezbollah must surrender its illegal weapons, as all other parties did after the war, and only then can we build a State.
He continued: "We cannot build a State until Hezbollah decides to surrender its illegal weapons. Israel will not stop its war, but the reality on the ground must change."
He pointed out that "the opposition will not accept a settlement, as it will lead to Lebanon's destruction."
In response to a question, Gemayel said: "The resistance opened the door for collaborators to infiltrate when it killed Chief of the Intelligence Bureau of the Internal Security Forces, Brigadier General Wissam Al-Hassan, and it dismantled the State, killing everyone who was an added value to it."
He stressed that the linkage of the Gaza front with Lebanon is no longer acceptable, saying that House Speaker Nabih Berri must call things by their names.
Gemayel reiterated: "We do not want to break anyone, but if someone is asking for help to get out of the trap they've fallen into, they must make concessions. Today, Hezbollah feels it is on the path to defeat and must make a decision."
He added: "The moment we decide to build a republic, we elect a president. The time has come to lay the foundations for building a State."
In response to another question, Gemayel said: "Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati is concerned about the country and the government. He sees the destruction and devastation, yet he remains silent. He wants to find a solution, but Hezbollah must hand over its illegal weapons for it to have a role in the country."
He emphasized that " Late President Bachir Gemayel did not need Israel. He was the solution to the crisis, and I am not promoting any candidate, but we must resolve the crisis."
He pointed out that "today, the opposition is not a single front; it is a democratic opposition capable of reaching a certain direction, which is building the country. Everyone agrees that we cannot build a State without unity."
Gemayel concluded his remarks with a message to the Shiite community, saying: "We are the ones who can ensure your continuity, and the State is what protects us. We are not traitors; we are the ones who wanted to live with all Lebanese with dignity. We have an opportunity to build a shared future, and we want to live in peace and security. This can only be achieved through cooperation, not by taking up arms against one another."
