Maronite Patriarch: No One Can Take the Place of the President

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi urged Lebanese lawmakers to fulfill their constitutional duties by prioritizing the election of a president, describing the two-year deadlock as a grave national failure.

“Through the intercession of the saints of Lebanon, we implore God to save our country from the ongoing war and its devastating consequences of destruction and displacement,” he said in his Sunday sermon. “We also pray for God to awaken the consciences of those obstructing the election of a president, urging lawmakers to head to Parliament and assume their honorable responsibility. No one can take the place of the president.”

Al-Rahi also expressed gratitude to individuals and host communities working to alleviate the suffering of the displaced.

“We thank all those serving the displaced, providing them with even a little to compensate for the much they have lost,” he said.
