Horizontal and vertical divisions have characterized Lebanon on local, regional, and international political levels over the past decades and up to the present day.
Even with the ongoing conflict in southern Lebanon involving the Israeli entity, the Lebanese stance has not unified. This is particularly evident among political parties, which have split between those supporting the war and those opposing it.
The Lebanese Kataeb Party is one of the Christian parties that opposes the war, consistently advocating for its cessation.
Head of Kataeb Foreign Affairs Department Marwan Abdallah emphasized that "the ongoing war in the south is a mistake, as Lebanon and its people have no interest in engaging in it. This step has not brought any benefit to Lebanon; on the contrary, it has had a negative impact on the Lebanese economy, resulted in the death of tens of Lebanese citizens, and forced thousands of southern residents to leave their villages and towns. Additionally, it has caused destruction to infrastructure and homes. There was no advantage to Lebanon, and it was not aimed at defending Lebanon, as it was not relevant to the conflict in Gaza."
"The decision of peace and war lies in the hands of one faction, which is Hezbollah. The Lebanese government and the majority of the Lebanese people are absent from making this decision, and therefore, the Kataeb Party is against it," he added.
Despite the Kataeb Party's rejection of the ongoing war in southern Lebanon, it also opposes any external attacks on Lebanon.
Abdallah affirmed Kataeb Party's rejection of any violation of Lebanon's sovereignty.
"Diplomatic means, adherence to international politics, and the implementation of international resolutions such as UNSC Resolution 1701, coupled with efforts to achieve international decisions to end crises, are key for peaceful solution," he stressed.
"This approach aims to prevent Lebanon from being trapped in a cycle of crisis deferral, avoiding a recurring pattern of wars, destruction, and loss of life every five years," he pointed out.
