The Lebanese Kataeb Party participated in a conference held in London on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the International Democracy Union (IDU) of which the Kataeb Party is a member.
The party was represented by a delegation from Foreign Affairs Department that included Political Bureau Member Joelle Bou Abboud and the party's International Secretary Marwan Abdallah who is also the Vice-Chairman of the IDU.
The conference was attended by representatives of 83 center-right parties from around the world.
Discussions revolved around recent global events, particularly Russia-Ukraine war, the Iranian threat in the Middle East, and the threat posed by the growing influence of authoritarian countries at the expense of democracy and freedom worldwide.
The Executive Committee of the IDU unanimously adopted a draft resolution on Lebanon presented by the Kataeb Party, which addressed the presidential crisis, Hezbollah’s control over Lebanon as well as the Syrian refugees file and the necessity of their return.
The Kataeb delegation also had side meetings with some parties, particularly the British Conservative Party, the German Christian Democratic Union, and the Conservative Party of Canada.
After the conference, the delegation visited the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where it met with the head of Lebanon and Syria unit and the director of Lebanon’s office.
Talks focused on the role of Britain in helping Lebanon and the importance of the support it provides to the Lebanese Army.
