Kataeb Party Says Election of President Will Be Focus of Its Attention in Upcoming Weeks

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Vice President of the Kataeb Party George Jreij. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1-The Kataeb Political Bureau addressed the economic, social and financial crises and the judicial paralysis that prevented the achievement of justice in the Beirut port explosion case, saying that Hezbollah is searching for a president who will “hold the resistance’s back” by protecting its illegal weapons, covering its uncalculated moves and neglecting the country’s sovereignty.

The Political Bureau also discussed the file of the displaced Syrians, which throws its weight on the infrastructure that is about to collapse, without overlooking the great social burden that drains the resources of basic services.

It also addressed the dangerous situation that the country's health sector has reached, which deprived Lebanese of the right to hospitalization, cancer patients of medicines, and babies of milk, while the cries of the concerned unions fell on deaf ears.

It also raised the issue of the educational sector that is on the brink of collapse, along with public schools and the Lebanese University, which constitute the only refuge for Lebanese students whose private education has become beyond their financial capabilities.

The Kataeb Party considered that those responsible of these disasters cannot be entrusted with the future of a country and a people that aspires to a homeland that will be a haven of safety and freedom.

It affirmed the continuation of work in a bid change the existing political approach starting with reorganizing the institutions, headed by a President of the Republic who is able to approach dilemmas without hesitation.

The Kataeb Party also voiced its refusal over neglecting entitlements, stressing the need to hold municipal elections within the legal deadlines.

It affirmed that the election of a new president would be the focus of its attention in the upcoming weeks, pledging to continue the struggle without retreat or compromise and to remain by the side of the Lebanese.

2- The Kataeb Party offered its deepest condolences to the Holy See over Former Pope Benedict XVI passing who loved Lebanon and paid it a visit in which he expressed his appreciation for it as a model of pluralism and religious diversity.
