Kataeb Party: Either Lebanon Has an Acceptable President for Everyone, or It Does Not

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1- The political bureau met and discussed the party leader's recent trip to Paris, during which he met with the French President's advisor Patrick Durel and explained the party's position on the presidential election.

Gemayel rejected any proposals for a trade-off between the presidency and the premiership, as Hezbollah had already violated previous agreements.

The political bureau is concerned that Hezbollah will continue to hold the presidential election in Lebanon hostage, and called for electing a President who is accepted by everyone.

2-The Kataeb Party discussed Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary General Naim Qassem speech in which he said “the choice today is between Frangieh and presidential vacuum”.

It insisted on confronting this divisive method, refusing to continue the destructive approach for six new years and depriving the Lebanese of any hope of restoring their lives that they dream of in a country open to the world and capable of achieving development and prosperity.

Therefore, the Kataeb Party considered that Either Lebanon has an acceptable president for everyone, or it does not.

3-Regarding the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon, the Kataeb party called for a new approach that takes into account the changing situation in Syria and the region.

It also held the Syrian regime responsible for not cooperating in facilitating the refugees' return, urging Arab countries to help Lebanon close this file as a condition for Syria's reintegration into the Arab world.
