Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon killed senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah in two separate attacks this week, according to statements by the Israeli military.
In a pre-dawn strike on Wednesday, an Israeli drone targeted a car in Sidon’s Villas neighborhood, near the Imam Ali Mosque, killing one person, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported. The Israeli military later confirmed the strike, saying it killed Khaled Ahmad Ahmad, a senior Hamas operative in Lebanon.
According to the Israeli army, Ahmad served as the chief of operations for Hamas’s western sector in Lebanon. The military said he was behind several attacks on Israeli civilians and troops since the beginning of the war and had recently worked to transfer weapons and organize further operations against Israel.
“Ahmad’s activities posed a threat to the State of Israel and its citizens,” the Israeli military said in a statement. “He advanced numerous attacks on Israeli civilians and troops and was working to carry out further terror attacks.”
A day earlier, on Tuesday, the Israeli army said it killed a senior Hezbollah commander in the Nabatieh region of southern Lebanon in a separate drone strike. The target, Adnan Muhammad Sadiq Harb, was identified by the Israeli military as the commander of the logistical support unit in Hezbollah’s Badr division, which operates in the northern Litani area.
According to the military, Harb was responsible for transporting weapons across Hezbollah’s units and played a key role in rebuilding the group’s military infrastructure in areas south of the Litani River, activities Israel described as a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
“The terrorist worked to transfer weapons within Lebanese territory between the various units in the organization,” the military said. “His actions constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”
