The Kataeb's Political Bureau convened its weekly meeting under the leadership of party president, MP Samy Gemayel. After discussing the latest developments, the Bureau released the following statement:
1. The Kataeb Party's Political Bureau reflected on the recurring security incidents and military escalations witnessed over the past week, proving once again that the issue of illegal weapons remains at the heart of Lebanon’s ongoing national crisis. The party warned that ignoring this critical issue will leave Lebanon trapped in persistent turmoil and exposed to repeated violations of its sovereignty and territory.
In this context, the Kataeb Party strongly condemned the recent attacks targeting UNIFIL forces, describing them as a double affront to both Lebanese and international legitimacy. It reiterated calls to strengthen UNIFIL’s role and empower it to fully execute its mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which would ensure a lasting ceasefire and support the extension of state authority and legitimate institutions throughout Lebanon.
2. The Bureau praised the remarkable performance of Justice Minister Adel Nassar, who, within a short period in office, has demonstrated strong commitment to revitalizing the judiciary and activating its institutions. His efforts include reopening stalled judicial files, advancing legislation on judicial independence, reactivating the courtroom at Roumieh Prison, pushing forward investigations into the Beirut port explosion and political assassinations, and striving to implement judicial appointments based on merit and impartiality rather than sectarian quotas or political affiliations.
While condemning the fierce political campaign against Minister Nassar, the party warned against attempts to subject the judiciary to political pressure or influence. The Bureau emphasized that judicial appointments must adhere to unified, non-discriminatory criteria applied equally to all candidates to safeguard judicial independence, which constitutes a critical prerequisite for justice.
3. The party reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the right of Lebanese expatriates to vote for all members of parliament. It rejected any attempts to undermine this right, underscoring its importance in maintaining the diaspora’s deep-rooted connection to Lebanon, rather than pushing them toward a second wave of displacement.
4. In line with party regulations, the Political Bureau approved the appointment of Dr. Nabil Hakim as the third Deputy President of the Kataeb Party.
