Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has instructed the foreign ministry to file an urgent complaint, through Lebanon’s permanent mission to the United Nations, against Israel for constructing a concrete wall inside Lebanese territory that crosses the so-called “Blue Line,” the de facto border between the two countries.
Aoun asked Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji to submit the complaint to the UN Security Council, accompanied by United Nations reports that challenge Israel’s denials and document a serious breach of Lebanese sovereignty.
According to a report by UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the wall built by the Israeli army has rendered over 4,000 square meters of southern Lebanese land inaccessible to local residents. The report also confirmed that the concrete “T‑wall” erected southwest of the town of Yaroun crosses the Blue Line, a finding verified through a UNIFIL geospatial survey.
UNIFIL has formally notified the Israeli army of its findings and requested the removal of the wall. A November survey by UN peacekeepers observed additional construction southeast of Yaroun that appeared to cross the Blue Line, while a separate new section has reportedly been built between Aytaroun and Maroun al-Ras, just south of the line.
The UN peacekeeping force emphasized that the Israeli presence and construction constitute a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which governs the ceasefire and deployment of peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL reiterated its demand that Israel respect the Blue Line “in its full length” and withdraw from all areas north of it.
