Justice Minister Meets U.S. Delegation, Says Any Illegal Activity Is Unacceptable

Justice Minister Adel Nassar said Lebanon must reclaim its role on the regional and international stage, emphasizing that the country’s policies are guided by national interest and by strong ties with friendly nations.

“The position voiced at the meeting supports Lebanon’s sovereignty and the transparency needed to protect the country’s interests,” Nassar said following talks with a U.S. Treasury delegation in Beirut. “We do not discriminate between one Lebanese citizen and another, and we reject any violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.”

Nassar stressed that the State’s monopoly on weapons is rooted in the Taif Agreement and the government’s ministerial statement, underscoring that the authority comes solely from the nation itself.

He highlighted the importance of upholding the rule of law, ensuring equality for all citizens, and keeping the use of force strictly within legal limits.

“Any illegal activity should not continue,” he said when asked about Hezbollah-affiliated Qard Al-Hassan, although he noted that no specific request had been made during the meeting in this regard.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to its responsibilities.

“The government is doing what it must, guided by its conscience,” Nassar said, highlighting the Lebanese administration’s determination to act in the country's national interest amid ongoing political and security challenges.
