Justice Minister Vows Full Support for Jordan’s Probe Into Foiled Terror Plot

Lebanon’s Justice Minister Adel Nassar has pledged full cooperation with Jordan in its investigation into a foiled plot to attack the kingdom, reaffirming Beirut’s commitment to supporting Amman’s counterterrorism efforts and bolstering regional security.

The pledge came during a phone call between Nassar and his Jordanian counterpart, Bassam Talhouni, in which the two ministers discussed ways to strengthen judicial cooperation and enhance legal frameworks between the two countries.

On Tuesday, Jordan announced the arrest of 16 members of the Muslim Brotherhood who were allegedly trained and financed in Lebanon. The suspects had reportedly plotted attacks inside Jordan using rockets and drones. Authorities said at least one rocket was primed for launch and that the operation had been under surveillance by Jordanian security forces since 2021.

In a statement, the Lebanese Ministry of Justice said Nassar had expressed Lebanon’s “complete readiness for full cooperation and support” of Jordan’s investigation into the terror cell, as well as efforts to reinforce regional counterterrorism initiatives.

Both ministers stressed the importance of enhancing legal and judicial coordination in ways that serve justice and safeguard national security in both countries.

Talhouni welcomed Nassar’s swift response and commended what he described as a “genuine and strong desire” from Lebanon to offer tangible support to Jordan’s judiciary.

“This cooperation reflects the depth of the brotherly ties between our two countries and strengthens our joint efforts to confront shared challenges—particularly in combating terrorism and organized crime,” Talhouni said.

The two sides also agreed to explore additional mechanisms to institutionalize legal cooperation and ensure closer coordination between their respective judicial systems.
