Israel Says It Found Hezbollah Rocket Launchers and Tunnel in Southern Lebanon

Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon found a Hezbollah fighting position containing a tunnel shaft and a rocket launcher loaded with 32 rockets aimed at Israel, the Israeli military said on Tuesday.

The Israel Defense Forces said the launch platforms had been left in place by Hezbollah before a ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed group took effect. The military said it destroyed the site and the launch platforms.

Israeli army spokesperson Ella Waweya said on X that forces from the 55th Brigade Combat Team, operating under the 91st Division, were conducting search and clearing operations in the area to eliminate what Israel described as threats to its territory.

“Finding launch platforms ready for use that were left in the security zone before the ceasefire agreement took effect,” Waweya said, describing the operation as part of the brigade’s activities in southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, the forces discovered a staging area containing a tunnel opening belonging to Hezbollah as well as rocket-launching platforms ready for use. The platforms contained 32 rockets directed toward Israeli territory, it said.

“The Israel Defense Forces will not allow the Hezbollah terrorist organization to threaten Israeli civilians or its forces,” Waweya said, adding that the military would continue operating to eliminate threats while maintaining its commitment to the ceasefire.

The reported discovery came amid continued Israeli military activity across parts of southern Lebanon, including areas north and south of the Litani River.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli drones were flying over Beirut and its southern suburbs, while Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of Mayfadoun and Eastern Zawtar, as well as the Ali al-Taher heights in the Nabatiyeh area.

Israeli military vehicles were also seen moving in Eastern Zawtar, according to the agency. An Israeli drone dropped a stun grenade over the town of Dibbine, while another drone dropped a stun grenade toward a shepherd in the Arid Marjayoun area.

In the Tyre district, Israeli forces carried out heavy explosions in the town of Majdal Zoun, producing loud blasts and powerful tremors that were felt in Tyre and surrounding villages, the NNA reported.

Heavy explosions were also carried out in Kounine in the Bint Jbeil district.

In Bayada, south of Tyre, Israeli forces set fire to remaining houses in the town, with columns of smoke rising over the area, according to the NNA.

Israeli artillery also fired several 155 mm heavy artillery rounds at the Hay al-Ghazaleh area of Mansouri in the Tyre district.

The NNA further reported that Israeli drones were flying over the town carrying explosive barrels, which they were reportedly placing on the roofs of homes for later detonation.
