Israel Vows to Block Iranian Arms Transfers to Hezbollah via Beirut Airport

The Israeli military issued a stern warning late Friday, pledging to prevent Iran from transferring weapons to Hezbollah through Beirut’s airport.

"We will not allow arms transfers to the Hezbollah terrorist organisation in any way. We know about Iranian arms shipments to Hezbollah and foil them," Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a televised briefing.

"Air force jets are now patrolling around the Beirut airport," he added, signaling Israel’s readiness to act against any perceived threats.

"We will not allow hostile flights with weapons to land at the civilian Beirut airport," Hagari affirmed, underscoring the critical importance of maintaining the airport’s non-military function.

"Until now, Lebanon, contrary to Syria, acted over the years responsibly and did not allow the transfer of weapons through the civilian airport," Hagari noted, contrasting Beirut’s approach with that of Damascus, where Iranian arms shipments to Hezbollah have been a frequent target of Israeli airstrikes.

"This is a civilian airport, for civilian use, and it must stay that way," Hagari stressed, highlighting the potential risk posed by the militarization of Lebanon’s main air hub.
