Israeli warplanes and drones carried out a series of strikes across southern Lebanon overnight and into Tuesday morning, targeting several towns in the Tyre, Jezzine, Nabatiyeh and Bint Jbeil districts, while artillery shelling and drone attacks left multiple casualties.
The attacks came after what residents described as a violent night of bombardment, during which Israeli aircraft struck at dawn with two missiles a location in the Maashouk area near Al-Wahda University on the outskirts of Tyre that the Israeli military had previously issued warnings about.
Fresh Israeli airstrikes resumed Monday morning, with warplanes targeting the town of Shaabiyeh and the Rihan Heights in the Jezzine district.
Israeli artillery shelling also hit the area of Arid Dbineh in Marjayoun district and the town of Kfarsir in Nabatiyeh district.
In one of the most serious incidents reported so far during the day, an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a Rapid vehicle belonging to the municipality of Harouf.
According to preliminary information, two people were wounded in the strike, including a municipal council member, while the second victim was reported in critical condition. The two men were reportedly distributing bread to residents of the town at the time of the attack.
Another Israeli strike targeted a house in the town of Mlita, while a separate drone attack hit a motorcycle in the town of Frun, killing one person, according to local reports.
Overnight, Israeli warplanes also launched raids on the town of Kafra, the outskirts of Kfardounine toward Deir Kifa, and a house located on the main road in Kafra in the Bint Jbeil district.
On Monday, Lebanon's health ministry reported that the death toll had risen to 3,020 people, among them 619 women, children and healthcare workers.
