Gemayel Emphasizes Expat Voting, Political Cohesion, and State Sovereignty in Talks with PM

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Wednesday to discuss the country’s political developments and pressing national issues.

Following the meeting, Gemayel praised Salam’s leadership, saying the government must restore State authority and enforce the rule of law, which he described as essential for all Lebanese.

“We are proud of the Prime Minister and wish him success in every decision he makes. We assured him of our full support and solidarity, especially when it comes to restoring the authority of the State and upholding the rule of law, which are exactly what Lebanon needs," Gemayel stated.

The lawmaker emphasized the importance of ensuring voting rights for Lebanese expatriates, calling on the government to submit a bill to Parliament that allows citizens abroad to vote for all 128 parliamentary seats.

"This is the only logical approach, unlike proposals that would either exclude expatriates entirely or restrict them to electing just six MPs, effectively cutting them off from Lebanon’s political life in a way that makes no sense.”

Gemayel also stressed the need for unity and solidarity among Lebanon’s political leadership.

"This is the only way to save the country and ensure that the logic of the State prevails over the law of the jungle," he said.

The Kataeb leader highlighted the role of the president and prime minister in asserting sovereignty and advancing reforms. He called for completing the disarmament of militias, describing it as “the essential foundation for building the State, attracting investment and aid, reintegrating Lebanon into the international community, and implementing economic reforms.”

"None of this can happen while militias continue to operate on Lebanese soil. That is why unity, coordination, and solidarity are crucial to guide the country toward prosperity, development, and renewed hope for the future," Gemayel concluded.
