Beirut Airport Operates Normally After Overnight Strike Causes Minor Runway Damage

Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport maintained its operations as usual on Thursday after an overnight bombing nearby, which caused minor damage to a runway, authorities confirmed.

Ali Hamiyeh, Lebanon's caretaker Minister of Public Works, stated on social media platform X that the airport is functioning normally, with all sections operational. His remarks came hours after reports of a strike that hit the vicinity of the airport overnight, scattering debris and lightly damaging Runway 17.

Al-Jadeed broadcaster reported that no major structural damage was inflicted on the airport. The impact, it noted, was limited to scattered stones along the western runway and nearby service road, in addition to minor damage around Runway 17. Airport maintenance crews reportedly began clearing the area at dawn, and operations returned to normal shortly afterward.

According to the Israeli military, the struck targets included Hezbollah command rooms and other military infrastructure in Beirut.

The Hezbollah sites were located “in the heart of a civilian population,” the Israeli military noted, accusing the group of using Beirut residents as human shields.
