Audi's Appeal for Repentance and Social Accountability

Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Beirut and its suburbs Archbishop Elias Audi, drew parallels between contemporary events in Lebanon and the biblical story of Zacchaeus, highlighting a resemblance to oppressive actions and financial exploitation.

He criticized the recent budget, taxes, and fees, stating that they burden citizens without corresponding social and health improvements.

Audi accused the authorities of remaining silent about the Beirut explosion, neglecting perpetrators, depleting savings, and deepening the institutional vacuum, particularly in the presidency.

He urged officials to repent, emulate Zacchaeus, and restore every penny to its rightful owner. Audi stressed the importance of respecting diverse opinions, lamenting the divisive state of communication in Lebanon, especially on social media.

Audi questioned the state of democracy and freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution.
