Following his meeting with Beirut Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Audi, Gemayel indicated that people are captives of illegal arms, a political class that is incapable of forming an independent government and of banks.
Gemayel blamed officials, Parliament, caretaker government and the Central Bank governor for the severe current financial crisis as banks’ policies allow some people to withdraw and transfer their money abroad while others are banned from doing so.
“I accuse them of not taking official measures of setting clear banking operation laws so that banks can properly handle Lebanese people’s accounts but instead leaving it at the discretion of the bank that holds the money,” he criticized.
“Partitioning mentality is still prevalent in the country as if people did not rise up against it”
“It is time that the Lebanese are given assurances for their future,” he indicated.
“We hope that 2020 turns out to be the year of liberation,” Gemayel aspired, expressing dismay over regional turmoil.
The meeting was also attended by Kataeb MP Elias Hankache, party's politburo member Faraj Kerbaj and Dr. Samir Khalaf.
