Kataeb Party: Presidential Initiatives Bound to Fail with a Candidate Unacceptable to the Lebanese

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1- The Kataeb Political Bureau considers that both internal and external initiatives aimed at expediting the election of a president fare destined to fail unless Hezbollah and its political faction meet the Lebanese halfway by relinquishing their presidential candidate and opting for another who serves as a common ground for all Lebanese.

It  warns against Hezbollah's exploitation of such initiatives to buy time, intimidate counterparts, and entice them into submission to its will, as has been customary.

2-  The Kataeb Political Bureau deliberates on stances labeled under the guise of partnership, deeming them futile in a country held hostage.

What partnership can be discussed when decisions are subject to Hezbollah's will?

The Kataeb Political Bureau calls for Lebanon's rescue and liberation from the grip it's under before addressing issues concerning the political system and partnership within the nation.

3-The Kataeb Political Bureau rejects the suspension of municipal elections under any pretext, warning against the danger of continuing to postpone constitutional obligations, which would remove Lebanon from the democratic framework of governance.

It considers municipalities as the sole remaining organizational framework capable of providing services to the people in the face of a collapsed state, pointing out that any obstruction to the elections would deprive Lebanese citizens of their basic rights, particularly with the presence of dozens of dissolved municipalities unable to fulfill their roles.
