U.S. Approves Suspended Visit by Lebanese Army Chief to Washington

Washington has approved a long-planned visit by Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, according to information obtained by Nidaa Al-Watan, signaling a possible easing of recent tensions between the two sides.

The visit, which had been put on hold, is now expected to take place in late this month or early next month. U.S. sources cited by the newspaper said the decision followed what they described as a “positive shift” in Haykal’s performance.

The trip has received formal approval from U.S. authorities and is now awaiting the scheduling of meetings. The sources said the agenda will remain unchanged, with no revisions to the program that had been prepared earlier.

In November, Washington had canceled a planned visit by the Lebanese army chief after objecting to a statement that blamed Israel for escalating tensions without referencing Hezbollah’s role.
