Sayegh: Let Forces of Change Deputies Do Their Work, We Will Fight Any Attempts at Hegemony

Deputy Head of Kataeb party Selim Sayegh said that the meeting on Monday with the Forces of Change MPs showed a great convergence of perspectives and they agreed that the candidate to reach the presidency should be aware of his/her duties.

“We hope that the Forces of Change MPs’ initiative would be a good sign. It is essential to seek solutions and get going with optimism. The Kataeb party commended the initiative before the Forces of Change deputies’ delegation and urged them to move through with it,” Sayegh said to Annahar Newspaper adding that the effort has a single, unifying term focused on the restoration of the Lebanese State rather than reflecting any political orientation.

"We are hoping for the election of a president who would try to end the current situation in Lebanon rather than stoking it," Sayegh said.

“There are several roadmaps and strategies in study offices, but free will is absent. We seek a president restricted by the State's constraints yet nonetheless free. To prevent the Lebanese from leaving their homeland, if they were still here, it would be vital to advocate for a president who can handle Lebanon's problems. Additionally, there must be an ample chance for a genuine national consensus and a sincere president who is true to his promises," he said.

“We are analyzing every perspective as we wait for the Forces of Change Deputies' exploratory round to be concluded. We are equally committed to supporting the work being done by the parliamentary group. At the same time, we fully understand that no agreement will be upheld unless it is founded on the capability to identify any attempt to support Lebanon's ascent. The soft-spoken language and the language of the system's pillars that numb the populace do not reassure us, and we will not be won over. Let the Forces of Change MPs do their work; we will fight any attempts at hegemony," Sayegh concluded.
