How Hezbollah Ends
For Hezbollah, these are trying times. After decades of being Lebanon’s predominant political and military organization, the group is reeling. During a yearlong war with Israel, it lost much of its military infrastructure. Its leadership ranks were decimated. Battered by conflict, in November, it signed a cease-fire agreement with Israel and pulled its forces from Lebanon’s south—Hezbollah’s traditional domain. Not long after, Bashar al-Assad’s regime fell in Syria, severing supply lines between the organization and Iran, its primary patron. Now Hezbollah is also at risk of losing the support of Lebanese Shiites, who make up its domestic base.

Sayegh: Hezbollah Cannot Speak on Behalf of Lebanon
Kataeb Lawmaker Selim Sayegh commented on the extension of the Army commander's term, noting that the approval of this law is a victory for Lebanon, for the concept of the state, and for the logic of good governance.
Regarding the positioning of the Free Patriotic Movement and MP Gebran Bassil towards the army commander, Sayegh affirmed that Bassil was wrong in accusing the army leadership of false accusations.
Sayegh mentioned UNSC Resolution 1701, affirming that Hezbollah did not respect it.
He called on "Hezbollah" to stop smuggling operations and supplying weapons through its regional allies adding: "The open confrontations today and the mutual threats between Israel and Hezbollah have nullified UNSC Resolution 1701, and for us, the stake is to preserve Lebanon and protect it from destruction, because we cannot bear the repetition of the 2006 scenario.
"We do not want this war, and let everyone know that Hezbollah cannot speak on behalf of Lebanon. The South has become a ground for involving us in other people's conflicts," Sayegh concluded.
