Rifi Declares Candidacy for Premiership, Says Mikati Part of Discredited Political Establishment

MP Ashraf Rifi highlighted that the primary challenge facing Lebanon’s newly elected president is the formation of a government, emphasizing that political forces must be willing to abandon their "selfishness" and make concessions for the country to move forward,

Speaking to Al-Jadeed, Rifi made it clear that the government formation process would require political leaders to rise above their individual interests and work toward a unified approach. He stressed the importance of forming a cabinet that reflects the aspirations of the Lebanese people, rather than being influenced by narrow partisan or personal gains.

“I am a candidate for the position of prime minister in the new phase,” Rifi declared, asserting his readiness to take up the role in the next government.

He also made a pointed remark regarding the current political establishment, specifically Caretaker PM Najib Mikati, whom he described as a part of the "previous system"—a system that, according to Rifi, is widely rejected by the Lebanese populace.
