Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met this morning with Interior Minister Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Hajj before the latter headed to the Ministry of the Interior to lead a meeting of the Central Security Council. The discussions focused on strengthening security across the country in light of recent disruptions, particularly in safeguarding public facilities and ensuring the safety of travelers heading to and from Beirut's airport.
Salam issued firm directives to the Interior Ministry, emphasizing the importance of not tolerating any actions that would undermine security, particularly on Lebanon’s roads and in its public spaces. He stressed the need to ensure the smooth operation of public services, including the safety and security of passengers at Rafik Hariri International Airport. The Prime Minister also underlined the necessity of preventing any attacks on both public and private property, specifically any attempts to block roads.
The Prime Minister’s instructions were clear: anyone found to be disrupting public order or attacking public or private property must be arrested and immediately referred to the judiciary for further legal action.
In a continued effort to monitor the situation, Prime Minister Salam is scheduled to chair a meeting this afternoon at his office in the Grand Serail with the relevant ministers to assess the ongoing developments and determine the next steps.
