Parliament Renews Confidence in Government After Two-Day Policy Review

Lebanon’s Parliament concluded a two-day session on Wednesday dedicated to discussing the general policy of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government, ending with a vote of confidence that saw the cabinet win a parliamentary majority despite growing political and economic pressures.

The government secured 69 votes in favor, while 9 lawmakers voted against, and 4 abstained. The motion to hold the vote was introduced by MP Gebran Bassil on behalf of the Strong Lebanon bloc.

The vote came shortly after Prime Minister Salam delivered a closing speech in which he reaffirmed his government's commitment to reform, transparency, and restoring state authority. He also addressed a wide range of concerns raised by MPs, including the Syrian refugee crisis, depositors’ rights, judicial independence, and the government’s approach to sovereignty and Israeli hostilities.
