Countering Hezbollah’s Reconstruction Politics and the Council for South Lebanon
In recent weeks, U.S. policy toward Lebanon has been narrowly focused on the process of disarming Iran-backed Hezbollah, as called for in the June trilateral framework agreement. Less attention has been paid to postwar reconstruction, another critical element of the agreement. Early indications suggest that Beirut’s current approach to this undertaking could wind up strengthening rather than marginalizing Hezbollah, since the government is apparently relying on the Council for South Lebanon (CSL)—an institution closely associated with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, the head of the Amal Party and Hezbollah’s chief political ally—to manage much of the process.

Over 50,000 Have Fled Lebanon for Syria Amid Escalating Israeli Strikes
The U.N. refugee chief said Saturday that more than 50,000 people had fled to Syria amid escalating Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon.
"More than 50,000 Lebanese and Syrians living in Lebanon have now crossed into Syria fleeing Israeli airstrikes," Filippo Grandi said on X, adding that "well over 200,000 people are displaced inside Lebanon".
