Bteghrine Mayor Mirna Murr was re-elected Monday as president of the Union of Metn Municipalities in a vote held at the Metn District Office in Jdeideh, just weeks after local elections concluded across the region.

Murr reclaimed the top post following a closely watched contest, with Beit Mery Mayor Roy Abou Chedid named vice president after securing 17 votes.

In a statement after the vote, Bikfaya-Mhaydseh Mayor Nicole Gemayel, who had also contested the union presidency, congratulated Murr on her victory but also issued a firm call for accountability and reform.

“I wish Mayor Mirna Murr all the best in her new role,” Gemayel said. “But I have made it clear that urgent action is needed to root out corruption within the union and throughout the Metn district.”

Gemayel, a prominent advocate of transparency and good governance, warned that the new leadership would be held to account by both municipal officials and residents.

“We will be watching the union's performance closely,” she said. “The days of Metn being sidelined or dominated by any single force are over.”
