Nassar Vows to Renew Push for Explosives Case Referral at Next Cabinet Session

Justice Minister Adel Nassar said he would push to refer the case of a truck carrying explosives seized in Dahr al-Baydar to the Judicial Council at the next Cabinet session, after the government postponed a decision on the matter.

Speaking after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, Nassar said he had hoped the government would settle the issue during the session but had reserved the right to raise it again after ministers opted to continue discussions and defer a decision.

Nassar stressed that the case was not about prejudging the investigation, pointing instead to what he described as serious findings, including the seizure of 800 kilograms of C4 and TNT explosives.

The transportation and storage of such a large quantity of explosives posed an immediate threat to citizens and represented a significant national security concern, he said.

Regarding the intended use of the materials, Nassar said individuals who had assumed responsibility for transporting and storing them had explicitly acknowledged that they were intended for military operations. He noted that Cabinet decisions had banned the party’s military activities.

He also cited legitimate suspicions that the explosives could have been intended for use in domestic operations, stressing that either possibility would constitute a direct threat to State security.

Nassar said he had full confidence in the seriousness of the ongoing investigation but called for it to be expanded by the public prosecutor at the Court of Cassation and the military prosecutor.

He reiterated his determination to bring the matter before the Judicial Council at the next Cabinet session, describing the referral as essential and insisting that the case could not be left unaddressed.
