Nassar Says Political Cover for Hezbollah’s Military Activities Has Ended

Justice Minister Adil Nassar on Monday said the political cover for Hezbollah’s military operations has come to an end, warning that anyone participating in the group’s armed activities now acts outside the law.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Nassar highlighted that the Cabinet’s recent decision to ban Hezbollah’s military activities was adopted in the presence of all ministers, despite objections from Hezbollah-affiliated members.

“Several ministers expressed opposition, but none walked out,” he said, pointing out that ministers from the Amal Movement voted in favor of the measure.

Nassar sharply criticized Hezbollah’s recent rocket attacks on Israel, describing them as a “serious mistake” that puts the Lebanese population at risk. He ruled out the possibility that any individual or group would dare challenge the Lebanese Army, which remains fully prepared to respond to any security threats.

“The gray area is over,” Nassar said. “Anyone who participates in Hezbollah’s military activities is now acting against the law. The political cover for Hezbollah’s armed operations has ended.”

He stressed that the Lebanese government has made it clear that all Hezbollah military operations no longer enjoy any form of official protection. The army has presented a plan to contain and disarm weapons and hold accountable anyone involved in unauthorized military activity.
