Nassar Proposed Legal Action Against Hezbollah Chief, Cabinet Held Back

Justice Minister Adel Nassar proposed filing charges and seeking an arrest warrant for Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem following controversial remarks in which he accused the government of carrying out Israeli orders, according to information obtained by Beirut Time.

The proposal was raised during Thursday’s Cabinet session, a day after Qassem’s comments drew objections from within the government.

According to the report, Nassar suggested that the Cabinet ask the public prosecutor to file charges against Qassem and issue an arrest warrant for him.

The Cabinet, however, chose to proceed cautiously and decided not to move forward with the proposal at this stage. Officials concluded that taking such a step under the current circumstances could risk triggering unrest, given the country’s sensitive political and security climate.

The controversy comes amid rising tensions between the government and Hezbollah after the Cabinet recently approved a decision banning the group’s military activities.
