Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire hit several areas of southern Lebanon overnight after Hezbollah launched a drone toward Israeli troops operating in the area, the Israeli military said on Saturday.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said on Friday that three people were killed and 23 others wounded in the Israeli attacks, with the injured including women, children and medical personnel.

The Israeli military said the escalation followed what it described as a Hezbollah drone attack targeting its forces in southern Lebanon. Israeli troops intercepted and shot down the drone, and no Israeli soldiers were injured, according to the military.

In response, Israeli forces carried out strikes against Hezbollah members and infrastructure across southern Lebanon.

“The IDF struck terrorists and infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon” after the drone was launched toward Israeli forces in the security zone, the military said in a statement.

Among the targets were weapons depots that Israel said belonged to Hezbollah and were intended to be used in attacks against Israeli territory.

Lebanese health authorities reported fatalities in Israeli strikes near the southern towns of Nabatiyeh and Rmadiyeh.

The Israeli military also struck other locations across southern Lebanon, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.

Shortly after midnight, Israeli artillery shelled the Wadi al-Salouqi and Wadi al-Hujair areas, according to the agency. The town of Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa also came under intermittent artillery fire.
