Mouawad to Armed Party: This Logic Does Not Work

Fourth parliamentary presidential elections session was held today, and Lawmakers failed again to elect a new Head of State one week away from Aoun’s term expiration.

“Last Thursday's scene was repeated today. I have a clear road map, and I got 39 votes,” said Lawmaker and candidate Michel Mouawad after the session, noting that an absence was recorded.

“Treason actions are held between the presidential elections sessions,” he said.

Addressing Hezbollah, he stated: “This logic does not work. It is applicable to any candidate against the armed party, and we will not submit. Hezbollah wants a gray president who is submissive to it, and continues to isolate Lebanon.”

“I will not present credentials to Hezbollah and the  Free Patriotic Movement in a bid to gain their satisfaction,” stressed Mouawad.

He revealed that there was a dominant authority working to extort Lawmakers and the Lebanese in a bid to maintain its quotas by disrupting sessions in the second round.

“The opposition has not united yet, and I heard their reasons. I tell them that we are facing a serious collapse, so let us unite. I reiterate my demand to gather the opposition in a bid to elect a president who will save the country from the destruction and collapse we are suffering,” he stated.

He noted that 70% of the opposition agreed on his candidacy, saying that he was ready to collaborate with the rest of Lawmakers.

Mouawad explained that Lawmakers who did not vote to him had no problem against his candidacy but rather had other approaches.

“My votes declined due to the absence of some Lawmakers, and the difference is one vote which is not a big deal,” he finished.
