Mawlawi Considers Fighting Among Lebanese as Thing of the Past

Caretaker Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi stressed that fighting among the Lebanese had become a thing of the past, adding that “those betting on it will soon discover that their wager is misplaced.”

"The international community is backing the efforts seeking to preserve stability and protecting civil peace," Mawlawi said in an interview with Asharq al-Awsat.

“The local and external circumstances that caused the civil war in Lebanon in 1975 no longer exist,” he explained.

He continued that there were no political backdrops for the latest developments and incidents at the security level.

“Fighting is a thing of the past, because the international community does not encourage terrorism nor provides a cover for those promoting schemes of division,” he noted.
