Major General Ibrahim: Returning Syrian Refugees is a National Duty, Some Organizations Claim Humanity

General Director of the General Directorate of General Security Major Abbas Ibrahim indicated that Syrian refugees issue was a national one, considering that returning them to their homeland is a duty that shall be performed.

“The displacement file has negative impacts at all levels, so it must be addressed. Lebanon rejects the way many other parties deal with it, on top of which are humanitarian organizations and others claiming humanity and trying to dictate their will to us,” Ibrahim said in a press conference held at the General Directorate of General Security.

“We will not succumb to pressure because the interest of the Lebanese people is first and foremost, and we will not force any displaced to return. This is our principle and we seek to reduce the burden on Lebanon," he added.

Major General Ibrahim explained that there were two million and 80,000 Syrian refugees currently in Lebanon, and nearly 540 thousand Syrians had voluntarily returned to their country since the project had begun in 2017.

On the other hand, Major General Ibrahim announced: “Despite all what is said, work is progressing in an attempt to form a government.”
