Kataeb Municipalities Department on Friday called for holding municipal elections in spring 2022, saying that it is a pivotal process to reconfigure the authority and launch a new impetus for local development in which the local community with all its sects, partisan and sectarian components participate, regardless of their different aspirations and interests.
“The Ministry of Interior and Municipalities no longer has any excuse to postpone the municipal elections after the parliamentary elections were brought forward, which gave it sufficient time to hold the municipal elections on time in May, especially since the municipal elections do not take place in one day, but rather in stages, each governorate separately,” said a statement issued by the Kataeb Municipalities Department.
“The failure to hold municipal elections will lead to negative repercussions in villages and towns that are awaiting change and the re-formation of new municipal councils, and to an explosion of family, partisan and sectarian conflicts,” it concluded.
