Hankache Says Appropriate Decision Will Be Taken to Halt Expansion of Metn Landfill

Resigned Kataeb minister Elias Hankache on Tuesday stressed that the party is examining all the available steps so as to object to the recent decision aimed at expanding the Metn Coast landfill, affirming that it will take the appropriate decision.

“There is a mafia system that has been benefiting from the waste management file in Lebanon for 30 years in a bid to finance political parties,” Hankache told Voice of Lebanon radio station, saying that there is a complete absence of transparency in dealing with this file.

“The political class does not understand the damage it is causing Lebanon and the Middle East with such crime,” he added.

“This is unacceptable. We refuse to let the Metn citizens be victims of these practices,” he noted.

Hankache called for sustainable plans to solve this problem, saying that the expansion of the Burj Hammoud landfill by 40 thousand meters was set by an exceptional decision.

“They have promised people to establish sorting and treatment centers in the area within 4 years and they have also promised the municipalities to empower them but none of these promises has been achieved so far,” he said.

“There is no solution to this crime except summoning to the International Judiciary,” he stressed.
