Gemayel: The Criterion for Success is for an Authority to Put an End to Hezbollah's Control over the Country

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday reiterated need to form a new government as soon as possible, saying that it the Lebanese officials’ duty to make this happen.

“We seek an independent government that would restore the foreign countries’ confidence in Lebanon,” Gemayel said in an interview with Sky News.

“Otherwise, we have no hope for what is happening today in terms of governmental consultations,” he added.

Gemayel deemed the parliamentary elections as a red line, saying that these polls are the last chance for the Lebanese to save themselves and hold accountable.

“We won’t let anyone obstruct the elections or steal this opportunity from us. The Lebanese people are ready to express their opinion in the ballot boxes because we believe in the peaceful, democratic, institutional change,” he said.

“The Lebanese are now liberated and fully aware of the old system’s approach and this is considered as the biggest achievement for the October 17 revolution,” he pointed out.

Gemayel stressed that the logic of quota and trying to please everyone remain ongoing while people are suffering and are dying from hunger, saying that it is illogical for officials to act in this way.

"We don’t hope for any good even if they have succeeded in sharing the State's resources,” he noted.

"Does the criterion of positivity lie in the system’s approach in satisfying each other or to give hope for the Lebanese for change?” he asked.

“For us, the criterion for success is when an authority puts an end to Hezbollah’s control over the country and carries out with the necessary reforms so as to help the country rise again,” he asserted.

“Change cannot happen in light of this political corrupt class,” he added.
