Hankache Stresses Need to Announce a State of Emergency over Waste Crisis

“Entrusting the Development and Reconstruction Council with the expansion of both Jdeideh and Burj Hammoud landfills is an unacceptable matter and an unfair decision against the region and its people and it falls within the framework of random measures, Hankache told Voice of Lebanon radio station.

"This massacre needs to be stopped immediately," he added.

Hankache recalled for waste sorting from the source, deeming it as an essential and necessary step to start solving the garbage crisis.

“The Environmental ministers do nothing but talk about sorting from the source and the executive authority is absent and does not do its actual work," the lawmaker added, saying that the sustainable plan begins with sorting centers.
