Head of LU Professors' League Steps Down Amid Internal Split

Head of the executive committee of the League of Lebanese University Full-Time Professors, Youssef Daher, resigned on Monday amid a growing split over a decision to temporarily suspend the strike that professors had launched more than one month ago.

Daher said in a statement that his decision to step down was driven by the absence of harmony and trust among some of the professors, hoping that the league would continue to fight for the university’s rights away from “sectarian and political meddling.”

While the league decided to temporarily suspend the strike starting Thursday, some LU professors announced they would carry on with it to protest the 2019 draft budget which reduces the government's financial allocation to the university and includes items that affect public employees.
