Sayegh: Nasrallah Proved Again That He Is Lebanon's Spokesman

Kataeb's Vice President Selim Sayegh on Wednesday lambasted the latest speech made by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, saying that it proved again that Lebanon’s official spokesman has become the party’s secretary-general.

"The comments on the visit of U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo to Lebanon were made by a party leader, not the President, prime minister or the Parliament speaker," he said in an interview on Voice of Lebanon radio station.

Sayegh said Hezbollah is considered a Lebanese when it faces the enemy on the southern border, adding that it is no longer regarded as such when it goes beyond the border to meet regional requests and fight according to its own agenda.

"We want Lebanon to be a neutral country and to defend its borders under the command of the Lebanese army only,” he said.

"We consider Hezbollah a Lebanese party elected to be represented in the Lebanese parliament, but at the same time it is a political force that imposed its own conditions to force the election of its candidate for president, approve an electoral law that suits it and form a government that meets its interests," Sayegh said.
