Hezbollah claimed on Wednesday that its fighters had engaged in fierce clashes with Israeli forces attempting to infiltrate the border town of Maroun Al-Ras. This development follows earlier reports from the militant group claiming to have successfully repelled Israeli troops who were trying to enter the town of Adaysseh.
In a statement, Hezbollah said that its militants confronted a unit of Israeli infantry at dawn on Wednesday, as they made their way into Adaysseh from the Khaleh al-Mahafir area. The confrontation resulted in casualties for the Israeli forces, who were forced to retreat.
In a related statement, Lebanon's Army Command confirmed that an Israeli military unit had breached the Blue Line, advancing approximately 400 meters into Lebanese territory near Kharba Yaroun and the Adaysseh Gate before withdrawing shortly thereafter.
Al-Arabiya news channel indicated that the clashes in Adaysseh resulted in the deaths of four Israeli soldiers, with an additional twenty reported injured. Israeli media have corroborated these reports, noting that some of the injured soldiers were treated at Rambam Hospital in Haifa and Ziv Hospital in Safed, both located in the Upper Galilee.
Later, the Israeli army confirmed that one of its soldiers was killed "during a battle with Hezbollah operatives in a village in southern Lebanon," identifying him as a team commander in the Egoz Commando Unit.
The Israeli army released new footage showcasing the activities of its 98th Division in southern Lebanon, following the initiation of a ground operation on Monday night. This military campaign has seen troops engaged in close-quarters combat with Hezbollah operatives while also directing airstrikes against gunmen and Hezbollah positions, the military noted.
Israel's army said that the Egoz commando unit has been particularly active, with recent reports indicating the successful destruction of a Hezbollah position. This operation resulted in the elimination of a rocket launcher and a cache of explosives.
LBCI channel reported that Israeli military vehicles and troops have reached the main road connecting the towns of Adaysseh and Kfarkela, with reports indicating that Israeli troops are advancing toward a Lebanese army checkpoint in Adaysseh.
Social media has also been abuzz with footage of Israeli tanks allegedly stationed at the entrance to Adaysseh, showing the heavy military presence in the area.
