Kataeb Source: Hezbollah Persists on Frangieh's Candidacy Despite Minority Support

A Kataeb Party source told the Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Anbaa" that "this is not the first time rumors circulate about the imminent election of a president, but we see no justification for this optimism as the circumstances remain unchanged. Hezbollah and its political team persist with their stubbornness by insisting on the same candidate (Marada Movement Leader Sleiman Frangieh) and the logic of imposition despite only a parliamentary minority supporting them."

The source continued, stating, "As a party, we have expressed our readiness on multiple occasions to propose a new name, provided that the other team abandons its candidate as a goodwill gesture towards reconciliation."

In response to a question about the possibility of an escalation of warfare in the south, the source said, "The situation of warfare in the region and southern Lebanon has expanded, although it remains controlled for now. As long as the Israeli objectives have not been achieved through politics and diplomacy, the risk of military escalation is more imminent than ever before."
