Kataeb Party: Disarmament Must Precede Parliamentary Vote in Hezbollah Strongholds

The Kataeb’s Political Bureau, chaired by party leader Samy Gemayel, convened its weekly meeting to review the latest political and security developments and issued the following statement:

1. The Bureau condemns statements by Hezbollah officials, including Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem, rejecting the consolidation of weapons north of the Litani River and threatening civil war. These remarks constitute a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement, an open defiance of Lebanese law and the Constitution, and a breach of international resolutions, directly undermining the National Pact. The Bureau reiterates that placing all weapons under State authority is a national and constitutional obligation that must not be subject to extortion or compromise, and it calls on the government to complete the disarmament process nationwide without delay.

2. The Bureau emphasizes that the freedom to run for office and to vote is the foundation of democracy and an inseparable part of a legitimate electoral process. Accordingly, the Bureau urges the government to ensure fair elections in areas under Hezbollah’s influence by completing the disarmament process before the constitutional electoral deadline. The Bureau also calls for immediate amendments to the electoral law to allow all Lebanese expatriates to vote for all 128 parliamentary seats, opposing any technical postponement that undermines equality between those able to travel to Lebanon and those who cannot.

3. The Bureau calls on the government to launch a comprehensive review and rationalization of public administration to assess actual needs, curb waste, and identify phantom positions, as a necessary step toward addressing salaries and wages.
